ICIAM07 - 6th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics16 Jul 2007 - 12:00pm 20 Jul 2007 - 12:00pm Etc/GMT+1 International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics 2007 Goals The International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) is held every four years and is the most important general meeting, worldwide, for applied mathematicians. The Congress covers the full spectrum of research topics in applied mathematics, industrial mathematics and applications of mathematics in industry and scientific disciplines. The Congress celebrates and describes the contributions of applied mathematics - as an intellectual creation in its own right, as a foundation stone of technological development, and as an indispensable collaborative partner for other scientific disciplines. These aspects of applied mathematics have held true since the dawn of civilisation. They will remain just as important in societies more and more dominated by technology.
ICIAM 2007 will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, and is hosted by the Swiss Mathematical Society and the community of Swiss mathematicians. Goals for ICIAM 2007 Arrange the major conference, worldwide, for industrial and applied mathematics during the four-year period 2003 - 2007. Create a forum to describe new and emerging research developments in applied mathematics, the industrial applications of mathematics, and last but not least the interaction of mathematics with industry and the sciences. Encourage exchanges on a personal level between delegates not only on research, but also on the professional and educational situation, political support and public awareness of applied and industrial mathematics in different countries. Attend to special needs of member societies and on the interaction between them. Provide a special focus on applied and industrial mathematics in Europe. Provide a high-profile activity to enhance the lustre of applied mathematics, as perceived by the public, research collaborators, end-users and politicians. Contribute to the worldwide development of applied mathematics, including development of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Provide support possibilities for delegates who are financially disadvantaged such as delegates from developing countries and Eastern Europe. Make participation financially feasible for as many young delegates as possible, such as students and post doctoral fellows. Attract at least 2500 delegates and make sure that they can enjoy the culture and charms of the city of Zurich and Switzerland.
