Several PhD and post-doctoral research positions are currently vacant within the framework of a recently started SBO-project of the Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders, Belgium (IWT, www.iwt.be).
This 4-year project involves the study and development of methods for dealing with uncertainty in finite element calculations. More specifically, this project aims at the development of a generic approach for implementing a fuzzy finite element method. It also focusses on the possible extension of this approach to other non-probabilistic or hybrid non-deterministic techniques, as e.g. imprecise probabilities, info-gap and probability boxes. Next to the development of algorithms and numerical implementation strategies, the project focuses explicitly on the actual application of these novel non-deterministic numerical simulation techniques for design purposes.
This project assembles a consortium of eight prominent Flemish partners with academic as well as industrial background in the field of non-deterministic numerical modeling techniques. Vacancies for PhD students as well as post-doctoral researchers are currently available at the five involved academic research partners in two leading Flemish universities:
